Independent Contractor Law: What You Need to Know

Misclassifying an individual as an independent contractor instead of an employee can be a costly mistake for nonprofits and businesses. UMass Law School student attorneys will explain state and federal criteria for determining whether a position should be classified as an employee or independent contractor.

Presented by the Legal Center for Nonprofits, Inc., in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth School of Law Community Development Clinic. Free parking is available and breakfast will be served. Doors open at 9:00 am and program begins promptly at 9:15 am.

Programs are presented at our office inside the Inter-Church Council of Greater New Bedford house, 412 County Street, New Bedford MA, unless another location is specified in the program description.  Off-street parking is available in rear of building.

Our program site has stairs. If this is a problem, please advise us at least 5 days in advance of program date; we may be able to change program rooms.

Program Fees

The fee for most programs is $10 per person unless otherwise indicated in the program description.  Payment in cash, check or money order only can be accepted at this time.   Program fees are not refundable.  Space is limited, and preregistration is recommended.  Payment at the door is acceptable, but note that pre-registered attendees have priority.
